We were born in ancient times! Or maybe not… February 2006 saw us coming. The day? We only remember it was snowing in Alhos Vedros (something that didn’t happen too many times in that little town’s history and show how wasted up Mother Nature is). The band’s original line-up was Filipe Tareco in vocals, José Pereira in the guitar, Tiago Vidigal in bass, André Semiano in guitar and Henrique Vassalo in drums. With the “so long, goodbye” of the latest three, we get to the present line-up, with the drumsticks in possession of Guilherme Santana, Daniel Pereira in the Live Guitar and João Braga as Bassist. Yeah!.
The band started with covers but soon were originals blooming (in result of the various influences of all members). Today, we see ourselves as an experimental band that explores (we try) all genres of rock. We’re rockers, punks, thrashers, head-bangers but, most of all, we love music! We get influenced by society, world, war and peace and whatsoever cliché you might imagine. We like it that way, we like to feel the groove, fueled by alcohol and stuff and… "comer e buuer!"
But it doesn’t start here!
Back in the 90’s, Zé (José Pereira), Vidigal (Tiago Vidigal) and Santana (Guilherme Santana) were school-mates, and shared the same musical tastes. Everything they did on their free-time was about music (yes, even in the bathroom they like to compose melodies!) and, eventually, Zé began playing Guitar and Bass. He had a couple of bands with Vidigal (at the time performing the vocals) in which they wrote and composed all the stuff, barely making covers. The creative streak was already rising up! Santana didn’t know bananas about playing or singing so he kept listening and dedicated more time to fishing, rowing and beer…
After some minor shows at their school, they got to High-School and met Tareco (Filipe Tareco), this one not knowing pineapples about playing either, but joining Zé in a band through a friend. Tareco picked the microphone and began creating some stuff for the band, Henrique (Henrique Vassalo) was added for the drums at the time but kept playing in his own band with André (André Semiano). In a show at Casquilhos School, both bands shared the stage and it was there that all the members (except Vidigal, which had singed for both bands but wasn’t present at the time) merged a few months later to a new band. Clydes were in embryo phase. Zé and André were responsible for the guitars, Henrique the drums, Tareco the mike but a bassist was missing so Zé suggested Vidigal for the place. Vidigal was happy with the place he took, but something was wrong: “I don’t know how to play, I don’t even know how to hold this damn thing!” In a few weeks he learned it, as he should. Clydes were ready to rock!
The band plays, evolves, and becomes more secure. 6 originals are made (not counting the “asleep” ones) and the feedback of such songs is very positive. Santana is recovered from the beer and fishing and stuff, and turns to our roadie, helping with the sound, logistics and all the things related to the subsequent shows. After a few acts (including the awesome SFAL Alternative Fest 2007), André and Henrique decide to leave Clydes. May the Force be with them! We loose some steam and got focused in more important personal matters of each one at that time. Only Zé kept an active struggling for the survival of the band. “What about putting Santana as Drummer?” he said. No more “thinking”, if Vidigal succeeded, so Santana would! As he is! The long time wish of having such line-up was everyone’s desire and here we are, with Santana doing the unthinkable a few months ago, playing like a bad-ass drummer! And 'cause we are lucky guys, the bassist says "fairwell" too... but stuff happens, and Zé's Brother (Daniel Pereira)joins the party! João (João Braga) is summoned from the dark coastal road of Coina's little river and guess what... WE'RE BACK! And WE'RE MAD and ready to some VIRA MILHO!! (but we won’t bite you, this is a virtual network, it’s impossible!) Clydes are returning at full throttle (with the priceless help of the dark master of megazord, Luis Caldeira, thanks bud!) and we hope to put some good stuff in your ears soon!
